Newer cordless tools with modern lithium ion batteries are designed to charge the battery more intelligently. From what is written, constantly charging them is less likely to have a negative effect on battery life.
Here's a solution for keeping an older battery ready for use at any time. Plug a POWER STRIP into a 24-HOUR TIMER then plug the battery charges into the power strip.
